I do hope that you are all safe and well and coping with all this time indoors. It already feels very strange to not be going into the theatre every day. Myself and the team are working remotely so YATI lives on in our homes and the good news is we will soon be giving you the chance to have YATI in your homes too!
We will be launching a virtual YATI at the start of the summer term (20th April) and running classes in their normal time slots via Zoom. The technology is pretty straight forward and if you have a PC, Mac or smart device you should be able to access it with a few clicks. Obviously there will be elements of workshops that won’t translate online but we are working with our teachers to create content that stimulates, teaches, involves, creates some fun and keeps the theatre magic alive.
We will be in touch with more details of how to access all of this nearer the time. I know I will be needing an Idiot’s Guide…
I would imagine that many of you have been turning to broadcast TV and streaming services to keep yourselves entertained and distracted in the last couple of weeks. Virtually all of the actors you will have been watching and enjoying, the directors, designers, the make up artists and all the other production staff who have made the content you have been viewing, will be free lance artists who suddenly find themselves out of work and with no money.
This is true for many of our wonderful staff at YATI too. As you know most of them are professional theatre and film practitioners as well as YATI teachers. If our members continue to access YATI and pay their fees, we can keep YATI alive over the coming weeks and continue to offer employment to our teachers and staff, and continue to train you, the artists of the future. But, even if you won’t be joining us for internet classes, please could you consider donating the cost of your class fees to support YATI, which is a registered charity. I believe the work we do is vital.
In the meantime, stay healthy and happy and give lots of support and love to those around you.
See you soon!
Andrew & all the team at YATI.
