Joey became a member of Young Actors Theatre at the age of 8, where he built his confidence while becoming an active member of the YATI community. He appeared in several YATI shows as a teenager – including Billy Elliot, Cinderella and Evita – while also working as an assistant. He started teaching pre-juniors classes in 2013 and in 2015 began also teaching the juniors. He finds YAT to be an exciting and diverse place to work and loves the energy, enthusiasm and creativity the kids bring to his classes.
As well as attending Young Actors Theatre in his teens, Joey was also part of the RADA Youth Company where he appeared in Titus Andronicus at the Vanburgh Theatre. He was in the Almeida’s Young Friends LAB Project, part of the company which inspired John Donnelly’s new play Encourage the Others and appeared in its inaugural performances. Joey is also a member of The National Youth Theatre where he found the dedication and teamwork particularly inspiring. Joey did a foundation year at The Drama Centre after leaving school and has performed in several short films. This includes a lead role in the Spanish-made film Safari which has been nominated for several international awards, including being shortlisted as the Best International Short at the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics Week in 2014.
Joey is currently pursuing a professional career as an actor while also thoroughly enjoying the work he does at YAT, teaching promising young actors of the future.
